Spira Day 8: Puppies, Programming, & (3D) Printing!
Today we continued our introduction to computer engineering! In preparation for tomorrow's field tip to Dassault Systemes in Johnston, RI, we introduced the girls to software titled SolidWorks. SolidWorks is an application that allows one to design three dimensional objects and then upload to a printer to print three dimensionally. The girls got to play around with the software, creating their own designs and thankfully through a generous donation from Microsoft, the girls were able to print out the objects they created with our new 3D printer. Midday, one of the mentor's brought in her puppies for an hour of puppy fun with the campers. Afterwards, we brought the girls down to the Brown Design Workshop in Prince Lab to give them a tour of the worksop--showing them where many of the engineering students at Brown come to create big projects with use of laser cutters or 3D printers. We ended the day with a run down on what to expect for tomorrow's field trip. Can't wait to see what Dassault has prepared for us!
