Day 5: Field Day Friday!

Today was our second field trip! When the campers got here we began the day by finishing up the bridge activity from yesterday and testing out some of the bridges (check out our facebook page for photos of the testing process!). We didn't finish testing, so we will finish and announce the winner on Monday! Then we got our stuff together and headed off on our second field trip of the summer. We walked to Tockwotten machine shop, where Brown's Formula Society of Automotive Engineers does work. Kelsey, a student in the group, gave our girls a brief talk about how the group designs and builds a formula one race car each year, and the girls got to see the car the group had built for last year's competition! Then we walked to India Point Park where we had a delicious lunch of pizza, humus, and veggies that we ate outside in the lovely weather. We then split into two groups for Physics Field Day, Spira's annual outdoor field day celebrating physics and physical activity. We calculated the power generated when we do pushups and the frequency at which we can swing. We then spent the rest of the afternoon bonding and climbing on the jungle gym. We ended the day by walking back to Brown, where we gathered our things and went our separate ways for the weekend. With the first week of camp complete, we can't wait to see the girls for next week: chemical/biomedical/materials engineering!
