Spira Day 2: Parks, Jeopardy, and so much more!
Today we took the campers on a field trip to Roger Williams Park! At the park, campers collected items such as soil, pond water, and plants for their mini ecosystem in a jar -- an activity we have set up as part of our Environmental Engineering week! They were able to walk around and think of some of the things they would want to incorporate in their aquatic ecosystems.
Soon after their item collection, we gave the campers a presentation on petroleum and nuclear engineering! We followed both lessons with a round of SPIRA Jeopardy in which team Falcon (Allison, Sofia, & Lerita) pulled through with a win. Jeopardy was then followed by a speaking exercise that encouraged skills in public speaking. Each of the girls were given a random object ranging from socks to floss and were given 5-10 minutes to create an advertisement for that object and then try to sell it to the rest of the camp. The exercise was very fun and the girls got very creative! Overall the day was full of fun activities and engaging learning!
