Day 19: Final Project Madness!
Today was full of final projects! We started working on final projects as soon as we got here and worked until going outside for a delicious lunch of Kabob and Curry, an Indian restaurant nearby. We then played a few games of mafia and enjoyed the warm weather before going back inside to continue finishing up final projects. The groups worked for a while longer before cleaning up and presenting. Each group gave a wonderful presentation about the design of their structure and how it accomplished the goals of being both resilient and sustainable for their assigned geographic area. The final projects were as follows:
DKD Engineering FIrm designed a grocery store for the Louisiana coast frequented by flooding and storms. Their design came equipt with a basement for shelter in case of tornado, drains in the parking lot and a Del's lemonade stand!
PAE (Protect Against Earthquakes) Engineering Firm fabricated a home for the California coast, which is prone to droughts and earthquakes. Their home came with a desalination system to convert sea water into potable water, and a helipad using blinking LEDs on the roof!
Crocodile Sandwich Engineering Firm built a school building for Ganvie, Benin--a city in West Africa that is built entirely on water. They created a two story school on stilts that came with a canoe to get around the city and a roof that comes off so we can see inside!
DJC Engineering Firm created a towering skyscraper for Tokyo, a city often hit by earthquakes. Their shiny building came with beautiful topiary sculptures and a working elevator!
ESH Hotels Engineering Firm was tasked with building a hotel for the mountainous, snowy Swiss Alps. They created a lovely six story hotel complete with a working ski lift, lights to warn of incoming avalanches, and solar panels on the roof to promote sustainability!

P.S. Sorry this post is a day late!
