Day 16: Spira is Our Name and Energy Conservation is Our Game!
We began our day with a "Do Now" question (Do you think solar cells are a cost-effective source of electricity?) and short discussion. We then jumped into a lesson introducing the topic of the week, Environmental Engineering, led by two of our lovely mentors, Patricia and Bridget. We moved on to talking about energy and certain forms of energy production in the U.S. and across the world. We introduced our solar oven project and began brainstorming and designing our ovens! Next we had an exciting lunch lunch at one of Brown's dining halls for a real college experience. After lunch, we visited solar panels (a combination of photovoltaics and solar thermal) on top of the Nelson Fitness Center at Brown. We spent some time playing on the field outside of the Nelson fitness center and then went back to our room for the quickest game of couch we have seen yet! We then went down to the computer lab to fill out evaluations and ended the day with a challenge problem.
