Day 4: First Field Trip!!
Today was day 4 of Spira! When we all got here, we walked to the Fox Point Hurricane Barrier, where we were given a really cool tour of the facility by John MacPhearson. We learned about the function of the barrier and its history. We then walked back to Wriston Quad at Brown to have a delicious lunch of Kabob and Curry (Indian food) and socialize with Artemis, a computer science camp for girls also run by Brown students! We then had some fun by playing active games with them before we came back inside (see our Facebook page for photos of the games). After settling back into the classroom, we started a lesson on bridges and trusses. We followed our lesson with an activity in which groups of three had to create bridges made of balsa wood. Their goal is to make the strongest bridge possible using the least amount of materials. We will test the bridges first thing tomorrow morning! We're excited to see who will win!
