Environmental Monday!
Our day started off with a Do-Now about how failure helps improve products and how engineers persevere through failure to create better innovations.
Sophia then introduced the students to environmental engineering and had the students use the environmental footprint calculator to discover how many Earths it would take to support their lifestyle.
We then had a guest lecture from Professor Deoni, who discussed his research in the Advanced Baby Imaging Lab.
We then had a deeper environmental engineering lesson from Sophia, who also led class discussions about the complexity of environmental issues.
Following this lesson, the students worked in pairs to create a water filter that would filter out dirty water containing oil, green food coloring, and styrofoam.
We will determine the best filter tomorrow and then start our final project that will incoroporate all of the lessons taught at Spira 2014!
