Rockets, Cars, & Polymers!
The morning started off with the completion of the motor car project, which teaches our students about troubleshooting, the prototyping process, and mechanical engineering. The students did a great job working on their cars and we are incredibly proud of their efforts!
We then learned about materials engineering with Izzy and worked on the second mentor Wednesday project: silly putty/bouncy balls.
Following lunch, we had brief lessons about aerospace engineering as well as energy. We then had an amazing visit from researcher Dr. Jarosiewicz, who works with the BrainGate lab at Brown. The BrainGate lab develops technology for people who are affected by paralysis.
Our final activity of the day was the rocket experiment activity. Students changed different aspects of alka-seltzer rockets in order to find out which conditions help the rocket travel the farthest. It was loads of fun and a great way to get outside before it started raining again.
